DO YOU SHIP TO PUERTO RICO AND THE VIRGIN ISLANDS?
Yes! Unfortunately, they do not show up on the drop-down list when you put in your shipping address. If you live in either of these places and want to place an order, please contact us.
WHY DO YOUR PRODUCTS SEPARATE IN THEIR BOTTLES?
VARDO does not use any emulsifiers (fats, waxes, or chemicals that allow the natural separation to blend and stay blended) because these materials can cause allergic reactions, breakouts, and toxicity in the body. The separation you see is the natural property of the products and are a physical representation of the purity you’re putting on your skin. Just turn your bottles upside down a few times (don’t shake!) before use and you’ll be able to watch as you blend your products together without chemicals!
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS VEGAN AND CRUELTY FREE?
VARDO is always cruelty free! We love animals more than anything, and would never put them in any harm’s way. Most of our products are also Vegan, but we do use beeswax in our lip balm (for now), and granulated sugar and honey in our holiday body scrub ‘Yuletide.’ When you look at our listings, you will see VEGAN listed whenever it is!
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS SAFE FOR PREGNANCY?
A lot of our products are safe for pregnant women, but you want to make sure to stay away from what we call “hot herbs” (cinnamon, clove, etc.) and also carnation oil. If you are trying to get pregnant but are not pregnant as of yet, all of our products are safe for you as long as you know your own allergies. When you look at our listings, you will see SFP listed whenever it is safe for pregnant mamas!
DO YOU ALLOW WHOLESALE ORDERS?
Yes! Contact us at email@example.com for wholesale inquiries. We also give discounts for orders of 10 or more of the same thing, so if you want to stock up on gifts, just let us know!
DO YOU ALLOW CUSTOM ORDERS?
Yes! VARDO began as a custom body care company. If you don’t find what you are looking for, or want something specific, please contact us from the contact page and we will get back to you within 24 hours to create your perfect product for you and your skin!
MY SKIN IS BREAKING OUT AFTER SWITCHING TO ALL NATURAL.
If you’ve been using skincare from the grocery store or big chain retailers, chances are you’ve been putting hundreds, if not thousands of chemicals on your skin for years. As your skin is the largest organ on your body, everything that touches it moves directly into your bloodstream. Breaking out when you first switch to all natural is not uncommon; it is your body detoxing all of the chemicals it’s been used to. Your skin might also get very oily since it doesn’t have the surfactants (sudsing cleaning agents) pulling all of your good oils off of your skin, and your skin will need to re-balance itself. If after a week or two your skin is still breaking out, please either contact us to make sure you’re using the right products for your skin, or go more slowly by introducing one product at a time (i.e. natural toner for a week then add natural face wash the week after).
THE SCENT OF YOUR BODY WASH IS NOT AS STRONG AS BODY WASHES FROM THE GROCERY STORE. I LIKE A STRONG SCENT.
The reason our body washes do not smell as strongly as commercial brands is because we use essential oils to perfume our products. The strong smells you find with commercial brands are chemicals made to imitate the aroma of natural things that would never smell as strongly if they were in their natural form. For example, any citrus scents – orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit – are what we call “top notes” in natural perfumery. That means that they are the scents that hit you first when you smell a blend, or perfume, but they are also the ones to die the fastest and fade away (generally within half an hour). If you are looking for a very strongly scented body wash but wish to stick with all natural (we hope you do!), we suggest looking at our body washes that contain fragrance oils (such as ‘Pisces.’ ‘Taurus.’ or ‘Capricorn.’). These will linger on your skin longer than pure essential oils.
YOUR BODY WASHES ARE RUNNY AND DON’T FOAM.
Yes, our body washes are more liquidy than commercial brands because we do not use thickening agents. When you are putting VARDO’s body wash on your luffa, you are using pure, unadulterated ingredients. After a while, you should get used to the consistency. As for not foaming, it is important that you use a luffa or shower poof with the body wash to create suds (also, remember not to ever shake your bottle, as this kills off sudsing abilities). As there are no surfactants in our products (chemicals that are incorporated into products solely to create suds), it will never foam up like you are used to, however, this is what we do with ours:
1. Wet your luffa
2. Turn your body wash over a few times to mix the ingredients (don’t shake!)
3. If you use the pump provided to you, put 5-6 pumps of body wash on your luffa and immediately press it to your chest, rubbing in circles and squeezing the luffa slightly. Rubbing in circles greatly increases the foaming abilities, and also lathers deeper into the skin. If you do not use the pump, a quarter-sized amount of body wash on your luffa will be enough.
WHAT ARE FRAGRANCE OILS AND WHY DON’T YOU USE THEM?
Fragrance oils are blended synthetic scents that are used to perfume bath and body products, candles, and as aromatherapy blends. VARDO is dedicated to providing you with skincare that helps your skin, not poisons it with more chemicals, and so we do not use fragrance oils of this caliber. You will see, however, that we have fragrance oils in some of our body washes and baths, and those are blends that are essential oils mixed with a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil, almond oil, olive oil, etc. to produce a blend that smells like another. For example, musk essential oil is no longer produced because musk deer were being killed for their scent (and we wouldn’t use it even if it was still available!), so blended essential oils are now used to create the same scent. Fragrance oils are made for scents that cannot be naturally extracted as well, such as strawberry, peach, sweetpea, tangerine, narcissus, and opium.
WHY DO SOME OF YOUR BATHS HAVE FOOD COLORING IN THEM? THAT’S NOT ALL NATURAL.
We use food coloring in our magickal baths because the color of the bath helps the bather set their intention. For example, ‘Venus.’ is pink because it is easier to set an intention for attraction/love/sex when you’re taking a pink bath. Unfortunately, food coloring is the only thing that is oil soluble and will dye salt. We have tried using every type of colorant that you possibly can: soap colorants; gel coloring; liquigel coloring; natural powders; plant dyes; and the list goes on and on. We only put in a maximum of three drops of coloring per bottle, but if you do not want any coloring, please let us know when you check out and we would be happy to not dye your bath salts!
WHAT ARE ALL THE WEIRD NAMES ON YOUR BOTTLES?
A vardo is the caravan that ‘gypsies’ used to move from place to place reading fortunes, doing small spells, and healing homeopathically. Each name on the products represent a Romani name for what the product is: “MUJ” means “face,” “WUZHO” means “lather,” and so on. You can see the exact definitions on each product page you click on. These are the product CATEGORIES (face wash, body wash, baths, etc.). Underneath those names are other names that represent the product TYPES, and are all named after specific magickal or cosmic happenings: baths are planets and moons; body washes zodiac signs; lip balm numerology; facial products the Major Arcana in the tarot deck. The owner of VARDO comes from two different bands of ‘gypsy’ blood, and brings these roots to our products.
YOUR LOGO WEARS OFF THE LABELS.
Yes it does! We believe that our products should speak for themselves whether you see our branding or not. We’re not interested in everyone knowing who VARDO is; we want everyone to have beautiful skin by moving into all natural and away from chemicals. The stamp on our labels is as ephemeral as gypsy vardos are – they’re here for a moment and gone before you know it. Our labels are also made out of thermal paper, so not ink is used, and can be easily peeled off so you can reuse your bottles. We believe in limiting our waste as much as possible.
IF YOU BELIEVE IN ZERO WASTE, WHY DO YOU SHRINK WRAP YOUR PACKAGES AND HAVE PLASTIC CAPS? CAN I BUY YOUR PRODUCTS WITHOUT PLASTIC?
By law, we are required to make sure all of our products are sealed for your protection, and plastic shrink wrap, though not ideal, is better to us than styrofoam sealers which can never be broken down. Our plastic caps enable you to reuse your bottles over and over again without rusting – the entire bottle, including cap – is dishwasher safe! This ultimately produces less waste than utilizing metal. If you’d like to purchase from us with no shrink wrap, please write us a message and let us know; we’d be happy to oblige. We’ll even send you your bottles with no paper label on them if that is what you prefer!
